The Rev. Dr. Lynn A. Collins
Priest In Charge

The Reverend Canon Dr. Lynn A. Collins received her Master's of Divinity and Doctorate of Ministry from New York Theological Seminary and is a graduate of the Harvard University Leadership Program. A former Senior Systems Engineer for fifteen years on Wall Street, she brings a variety of administrative and spiritual gifts to the ordained ministry.

 

Dr. Collins served as a youth facilitator at St. Augustine's Church in New York City until she was called to the Diocese of Ohio as Urban Missioner. In 1991 she became rector of St. Paul's Church in East Cleveland, Ohio where the third National Jubilee Ministries Center in the Diocese was established. Joining the Presiding Bishop's staff in 1995, Dr. Collins became the first Black ordained female Staff Officer for Black Episcopal Ministries. While there, she developed the resources, "It is Well with my Soul", "My House Must Be Filled", the "Black Bishop Living Legend Poster", 2000 -03, Black Millennium Calendars, and the comprehensive historical video, "Mine Eyes Have Seen the Savior - 400 years of Black Episcopal History." Dr. Collins has served as a missionary in Alaska, Zimbabwe, Panama, Costa Rico, and the Virgin Island. IN 2004 Dr. Collins served as Rector of St. John’s Church, Los Angeles.

 

Dr. Collins is featured in 2005 Daily Meditations of the United Church of Christ. Her dissertation, published in 2001, entitled “The Pedagogy of Afro Anglican Youth and the Catchecuminate Process led to lectures at Manchester College at Oxford University (United Kingdom), Howard University (Washington, DC), New York Theological Seminary, and the 2005 Afro-Anglican International Conference (Toronto, Canada). Presently, Dr. Collins serves as Priest-in-Charge at St John's Episcopal Church in Hempstead, Long Island. She is a Lecture at Mercer School of Theology and severs as Chair of the Diocesan Stewardship Committee.

 

Dr. Collins, a six generation Episcopalian and fourth generation priest, is the daughter of James Edward (deceased) and Elsie Lassiter and the younger sister of James, Jr., and mother of Latosha Collins. Dr. Collins prayer is to be an agent of peace and an ambassador of love for Jesus Christ who seeks truth in the healing experience of the simple love of God.
